.22lr Pawn Shop Answers

What gun should I get?
Q. I'm currently looking at some guns around $500-550 and found 3 at a local pawn shop that I like: one is a brand new GSG-5 .22LR still in the box, the second is a Romanian SKS with an adjustable stock and a foregrip, and the third is the Saiga 12. I'm looking for something that's alot of fun to shoot but will also do some damage for defense purposes (rather from people or large critters) I'm currently looking at some guns around $500-550 and found 3 at a local pawn shop that I like: one is a brand new GSG-5 .22LR still in the box, the second is a Romanian SKS with an adjustable stock and a foregrip, and the third is the Saiga 12. A. For all of the purposes you've listed, I think you would be better suited rethinking your list of weapons. Others have offered strong suggestions to fulfill your needs, all of which seem to live up to your price range. That said, if your heart is set on one of the three, I would almost certainly go with the Saiga 12. As they require a certain number of American-made parts to be legal, it's hit-or-miss when buying from a pawnshop as to what kind of quality you're going to get in terms of assembly. The price you mentioned is pretty low for one of these-- I'd ask myself "why" before I made the purchase. It does seem to be the weapon that fits most of your criteria. I can tell you from experience that when fitted with a drum magazine, [cont.]

Pawn shops: 21 and older for handguns?
Q. I'm 18 and walked in to look for a Firestorm 22lr and actually came across a walther ppk in 22lr. It's about double the price for a used one but it looked to be in great shape. Anyways as I started casually talking with this guy who was buying a Beretta. Soon after the guy leaves then the guy at the counter greets me and when I say that I am looking into buying a pistol as well. He shows me the inventory and offers to let me handle the Walther then he asks my age and when I reply that I'm 18, he immediately pulls back the gun he's holding. All the sudden its like a huge change and he mentions something about getting in trouble for even talking about handguns with me. I then asked if he could please talk about prices and he conceded and… [cont.]

A. i just wanted to say that 700 dollars for a walther p22 is ludicrous! that is not even close to a fair price. every one i've ever seen was under 400. plus its used if its at a pawn shop.

What gun should I consider adding to the small arsenal?
Q. I have so far: Walther P99c AS 9mm Walther P22 short S&W BG380 S&W 15-22 Beretta 3032 I've thought about a cheap to shoot shotgun for home defense. There is a used Beretta 21a .22 for a decent price in the pawn shop In the same pawn shop there is also a XDm something in 9mm for $500 I like my .22 rifle, but shooting it over and over can sometimes be 'ho hum'; sorta boring after a few hundred rounds. I still want cheap to shoot fun which is why I was considering the used .22 beretta. I carry the BG380 and was considering leaving the .380 market for EDCC and go with a small 9mm instead. I'd love a large sized round assault rifle, but I know I wouldn't be able to shoot it as much as a .22 Also, sorry glock fans, but because of my hand, [cont.]

A. Since you have all those semi-autos why not try something different and go with a revolver. Since you specify cheap to shoot and refuse to reload, I'd suggest an S&W M-617 as a top end choice with one of the Taurus Model 94 variants, or a Ruger Super-Single Six for lower priced choices. If you are getting bored shooting a .22 you need to change your targets or style, Teach yourself to shoot with the weak hand and eye. learn to shoot from the hip. That ought to take a couple of thousand rounds alone. Change your targets. In stead of punching paper, stick some clay birds to a piece of plywood, the burst most pleasingly. Take some eggs and superglue them to a length of fishing line and hang them below the target stand so that they can… [cont.]
